Re: Andy Carroll, back in training but does he have a role in our new look side.
Of course.

He is as good at what he does when fit as any target striker in the game.

I even think it might be best to start him and bring Valencia or Sakho on after 60 minutes.

We have a proper team right now when everyone is fit.

With Carroll coming back I seriously think we now have one of the best strike force in the country.

Yes, West Ham United!

Might be timely if Sakho has injured his shoulder

Yes, without a doubt. Having him to come on yesterday instead of CFC would have been an improvement. At the moment would he replace Valencia or Sakho - no he wouldn't. But he offers different options and that has got to be good. With us now providing more crosses his ability in the air should lead to goals, although he is nowhere near as mobile or quick as either of Valencia or Sakho. So to my mind he is now 3rd choice but he is a good third choice and that shows how much stronger we are now than last year. As third choice is he worth the money we are paying him - that is a different question and I am not sure I would give the same answer.

Good teams have options. Both in terms of tactics and players.

Carroll being fit will make us stronger.

Sakho and Valencia aren't going to start every game between now and the end of the season are they?

Re: Andy Carroll, back in training but does he have a role in our new look side.
I dont see why anyone would think he would not fit in. Last season we could have had any striker in the world playing for us and they would not score regularly due to the lack of chances we created. Carroll could slot in with either Sakho or Valencia without much changing. But he has to earn that right to be in the 1st 11.

I can't wait for him to be back. The lads have done well but he will see our frontline do great.

I like the idea of Carroll playing with Zarate just behind him. Could be fruitful.

Re: Andy Carroll, back in training but does he have a role in our new look side.
I think some people are judging him on the back end of last season when he was rushed back clearly unfit to try and save a side that had lost all confidence after a really shit two-thirds of a season.

All teams needed to do at that point was to kick him up in the air in open play and double mark him at corners as he was our only outlet.

He was getting stronger by the game and by his own admission wished the season went on longer as he was just starting to find his fitness and rhythm.

On his day he's easily one of our best players and hopefully he can have put his strange, flukey injuries behind him.

Even playing him in slowly, giving Andy Carroll half an hour against a tiring defence who have had to deal with Sakho and Valencia for an hour should have us all salivating. It's just a shame the City game has come around too quickly for him.

He certainly will have a role to play.

For the first time in god knows how long we have a Plan A and Plan B.

I'd like him to be a plan B, but what a plan B he would be if he can keep himself fit.

The long and short of it with Carroll is that he simply does not score nowhere near enough goals. But it will be good having him back adding competition.

Andy Carroll has a massive part to play.

Firstly we have the African Cup of Nations in Jan.

Then when he is on the pitch, he will create space for other players and the like Downing in his new role Valencia will benefit from this.

Problem is, is you can not leave out Sakho with the form he is in.

The competition for places up top should keep them all nicely motivated.

Carroll was the arguably the biggest victim of the way we played last season, despite everyone insisting it was geared around him.

The sort of service that was provided by Cresswell and Jenkinson for the two goals last week is exactky what Andy CARROLL thrives on. Last season, when fit, he spent the majority of the time with his back to goal, receiving long, straight balls, where he was expected to flick-on, chest down, or provide nuisance value for someone else to pick uo the pieces,
Carroll will benefit as much as anyone from our new approach, adn I can't wait to have him back.

Re: Andy Carroll, back in training but does he have a role in our new look side.
he will be a great addition to our strike force. After being run ragged by Sakho and Valencia for an hour, a tired defence has to face Carroll. Its a great option. Vice versa works just as well. So long as he's fit, I want Andy with us.

Just a quick thought for all those suggesting we get shot of AC. Supposing Sakho goes off to the ACN in January and Valencia picks up a knock, if there's no Carroll who have we got left?

Just a thought like.
